EXPANDING MY WORLDVIEW

I’m truly happy to say that studying abroad at Aoyama Gakuin University was the best decision I’ve made in my life so far, and I have made the most incredible memories all thanks to that decision. I’ve never felt more welcomed. The AGU staff and students are very kind, and are always ready to help at a moment’s notice. After arriving in Japan and meeting so many kind students, I was surprised at the enthusiasm that students in Japan felt for learning about my own culture. This, in turn, made me happy and enthusiastic as well, because not only did I want to Japanese teach students about my culture, but I also became enthusiastic to learn about cultures different from my own. I came to understand how important it is to have a wide perspective of the world’s different cultures, because it is necessary for us to come to understand one another as world citizens in order for us to be able to live in harmony. I’ve made lifetime friends at Aoyama Gakuin, and I honestly believe I’ve become a better version of myself due to all of my wonderful experiences abroad.

LIFE-CHANGING EXPERIENCE

The Aoyama Gakuin University Exchange Program was the best choice I could have made. I recommend it to anyone who is really serious about getting immersed in Japan and improving their Japanese.
The reason I initially chose the program was because it allowed exchange students to take regular classes with regular AGU students. It’s tough, but it definitely pushes you to the limit and expands your language and understanding of Japan in ways you cannot get from other programs. The required courses for exchange students also helped expand my understanding of Japanese history, mindset, and culture as well. (I fondly remember a presenter showing kuruma-ningyou, and another sharing about katsuo-bushi).
But there was much more to the experience than just the classes. The staff were kind and supportive, the food was good, the students were kind and open, and the location was unbeatable.
This exchange program set the foundation for my life in Japan. I now run a business and have a family here. If you’re serious about getting the most out of your exchange experience, look no further.
